BANANA BREAD: Fresh From The Oven
There are many recipes and variations available for making your own Banana Bread, but none have ever seemed to compare to this recipe from Grammy G's kitchen. It is our favorite recipe. It is simple and quick and it creates a perfectly moist and rich loaf that never fails to please a hungry belly. This is homemade goodness at its finest, filling your home with a warm and delicious aroma!
What you'll need: - 3 Mashed Bananas - 2 Eggs - 1 Cup of Sugar - 1/2 Cup of Shortening - 1 Tsp. Baking Soda - 1/2 Cup of Cold Water - 1 Tsp. of Baking Powder - Salt - 2 1/2 Cups of Flour
Mash ripened bananas in bowl. (Keep in mind that you may need to place the bananas in fridge to further darken).
Mix dry ingredients in seperate bowl. The flour, baking powder, baking soda, and a bit of salt (about the size of a quarter).
Mix wet ingredients in another bowl. First, cream the shortening and then slowly and gradually add the sugar until both are mixed smoothly. Then, add the eggs, the water and the mashed bananas. Whip ingredients together with a fork.
Mix dry ingredients and wet ingredients together.
 Grease and flour loaf pan.
Bake in 350F oven for approx. 1 hour or until inside is well cooked. Place a dry toothpick or skewer into the top of your loaf. If it comes out dry, your loaf is done. If, however, the toothpick comes out wet, place loaf back in oven until done.
This recipe makes 1 loaf. Let the loaf sit on the counter for thirty minutes or until cool and firm. Then, remove from loaf pan and slice on wooden cutting board or plate. Enjoy it alone or with a bit of butter. Delicious!
